Website chat widget
The website widget adds a chat bubble to your site, answered by one of your agents.
Set it up
Section titled “Set it up”- Open the agent’s page → Embed tab → Generate widget key.
- Under Sites it may appear on, list every site that will show the chat:
shop.example.com- exactly that site, over HTTPS.*.example.com- any subdomain, but notexample.comitself.http://localhost:3000- local testing; plain HTTP and the port must be written out.
- Turn the chat on and save.
- Paste the snippet just before
</body>on each page (or once in your site’s layout):
<script src="https://api.backcrew.ai/v1/widget.js" data-widget-key="wk_…" async></script>A green chat bubble appears in the bottom-right corner.
What visitors get
Section titled “What visitors get”- A chat panel in its own sealed box - your site’s CSS and the widget’s don’t affect each other.
- Each visitor gets their own memory, if the agent uses memory.
- Replies appear once complete, as plain text.
- Plain messages only: visitors never see your balance or internal errors.
Security and cost
Section titled “Security and cost”- The widget key is public by design - it only works on the sites you list, and only talks to this agent.
- Each message costs credits like any other request. Your balance and monthly limit cap what it can spend, and you can turn the chat off at any time.
- If the key is copied somewhere you don’t control, use New widget key; the old one stops working at once.
- The widget answers up to 30 messages a minute across all visitors.
