Telegram bot

An agent can answer people as a Telegram bot.

Connect a bot

1. In Telegram, open @BotFather and send /newbot.
2. Pick a name and a username ending in bot.
3. Copy the token BotFather gives you.
4. In backcrew, open the agent’s page → Embed → Telegram bot, paste the token and click Connect bot.

backcrew checks the token with Telegram, stores it encrypted, and never shows it again. The card then shows your bot’s @username with a link to open it.

How the bot behaves

• Answers private chats; it ignores groups and channels.
• /start gets a short greeting. Photos, voice notes and other non-text messages get a polite “I can only read text messages” - neither costs anything.
• Each Telegram user has their own memory, if the agent uses memory.
• Long replies are split to fit Telegram’s message limit.
• People never see your balance or internal errors.

Turn it off or disconnect

• Off keeps the bot connected but replies that it’s turned off, and nothing is charged.
• Disconnect bot stops it answering at once. The bot stays yours in Telegram; you can connect it again, here or to another agent.

Each bot answers up to 30 messages a minute across everyone chatting with it.
